The Meaning Behind the Name

The name Vis Viva comes from the vis-viva equation in astrodynamics—a principle that describes how motion, energy, and position are intrinsically connected.

We chose this name to reflect our belief that just as the vis-viva equation governs how objects move and adapt within a gravitational system, technology should empower creators, students, and engineers to build, experiment, and evolve within their own learning ecosystems.

At Vis Viva, knowledge is meant to be active, hands-on, and alive.

Founded by a Student, Built for Students

Vis Viva was founded by Barry Wen, a teenager involved in a school robotics club who experienced firsthand how difficult it was to find reliable, affordable electronic components for team projects.

What should have been time spent designing, building, and learning was often spent searching for parts, navigating inconsistent suppliers, or working around limited availability. That challenge revealed a gap between educational ambition and access to the right tools.

Vis Viva was created to close that gap—by making educational hardware easier to find, easier to understand, and easier to use in real learning environments.
